Fighting Back Against Identity Theft
Identity theft is when someone illegally uses your information such as: name, social security number, address, phone number, or other identifiable information to obtain credit or perform malicious activities. The most common form of identity theft is a perpetrator using a consumer's bank account or debit/credit card number to make purchases.
To help consumers become more aware of the dangers of identity theft, The Federal Trade Commission has developed a brochure entitled Deter, Detect, Defend - Avoid ID Theft.
This valuable brochure tells consumers how to deter identity thieves, how to detect if you've become a victim of identity theft, and how to defend yourself against this threat.
